As President Trump’s tariffs create economic uncertainty and threaten Ontario jobs, our Ontario PC team is investing in the next generation of workers and building the highly skilled workforce our economy needs.
Ontario is funding 40,000 new seats at publicly assisted colleges and universities, giving more students the opportunity to train for good-paying, in-demand careers as early as this fall.
Combined with the 30,000 newly funded seats announced earlier this year, we’re investing $1.7 billion to fund more than 70,000 additional postsecondary seats in high-demand areas, including:
- 40,200 new seats in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM)
- 16,100 new seats in health care
- 7,900 new seats in education
- 3,800 new seats in trades
- 3,000 new seats in other programs tied to local labour market needs
It’s the largest postsecondary seat expansion in Ontario in more than a decade and part of our historic $6.4 billion investment in Ontario’s postsecondary sector.
Colleges and universities worked with local employers and communities to identify the programs and skills that are most needed in their regions. That means more opportunities for students and a stronger pipeline of skilled workers for businesses looking to grow and invest in Ontario.
